Statement of intent feedback and learner response

 KHAN, Obaida

Mark: 4

Grade: D

Comments for AQA:

  • This is a mixed statement of intent that offers a workable concept that matches the music video / music magazine brief but does not outline media representations. It targets the specified audience largely appropriately and outlines an appropriate narrative.
  • Media language elements are considered although perhaps lacking specific details in places e.g. certain shots or other elements of media language not described specifically or lack the ‘how’ or ‘why’ required for the top levels.
  • Representation is not addressed in this statement which is a key weakness that keeps it to the lower levels.
  • Audience is addressed briefly but lacking detail or theory which also keeps this to the lower levels.
  • Digital convergence is addressed appropriately but more reference to industry contexts required to move this into level 3+.
  • Print element of brief is addressed but lacking specific details for the top levels. Also doesn’t seem to address front cover aspect of print brief.

Feedback:

  • This is a solid start but will need a few improvements to move up into the minimum 6+ mark we need to be aiming for.
  • For Media language, you need to make sure you are explaining either ‘how’ or ‘why’ for everything you include. If not, you won’t be getting any marks for that particular point. What connotations are you trying to create? What will you communicate to the audience?
  • For narrative, how can you add creativity or ‘difference’ to this concept so it isn’t like videos that have used this before? Perhaps something in the cinematography or editing that would make your video look different to others that have used this storyline?
  • Audience needs expanding – can you bring in theory? Also look back at the brief and make sure your plans for your target audience meet the requirements of the brief.
  • Representation is the key weakness – you haven’t covered this at all. What stereotypes will you use or subvert? What theories can you apply?
  • Print brief is addressed briefly - go back to this in January to add specific details when you have done the print research and planning tasks.
