Applying postcolonial theory to Old Town Road

Revise the postcolonial theories we have studied and apply them to the Old Town Road music video:

1) How does the Old Town Road music video both reinforce and challenge black stereotypes in the media?

Black stereotypes of gangster themes which is demonstrated through the lyric ' lean all in my bladder ' which refers to the drug lean. Black stereotypes are challenged through Lil Nas X dancing at the end of the video.

According to Stuart Hall's theory, viewers frequently confuse race with class, which causes people to identify specific races with particular social classes—for instance, white people are more dominating and wealthy than non-white people.

4) Are there any examples of Alvarado's theory of black stereotypes in the Old Town Road video? Why/why not?

Humorous conventions are demonstrated through Chris Rock. Exotic demonstrations are also conveyed through the outfits.

5) How does Lil Nas X provide a compelling case study for bell hooks's theory of intersectionality?

Lil Nas X subverts bell hook's idea as gender is presented in a fair and equal way.
