Coursework: Preliminary exercise feedback and LR

 1) Type up your teacher's feedback in full plus a summary of the comments you received from other students in the class.

  • Lots to credit here – I like the cut to black visual/editing motif in the opening, it works well. As it continues I’m not sure if there’s enough pace but it’s good to have a consistent style.
  • I know there is a footwear element but the end feels more like an advert than a music video! Need to think about how to cover this without losing the music video conventions.
  • The initial running element is unconvincing – it just doesn’t look natural. I wonder if you need the narrative of failure first. Can you just have someone working themselves into the ground?
  • You will need another scene / location / performance element for the full video.
  • Needed brand identity of your artist in there – that was part of the brief for the preliminary exercise.

2) Using a combination of your own reflection on the preliminary exercise and the feedback you were given, write three WWW bullet points and three EBI bullet points for your work.

WWW:
  • Vibe of the song fits the video
  • Nice variety of editing
  • Good  sponsorship of shoe
EBI:
  • Flashbacks weren't perfectly aligned to the beat
  • Effects come across as inconsistent
  • Some shots aren't clear due to the lighting

3) How effectively did you complete the objective you laid out in your mini preliminary exercise statement of intent?

It wasn't perfectly in agreement to matching the statement of intent but the bases of the ideas were followed through.

4) What have you learned from the preliminary exercise that will help you in the actual coursework project?

I may need a professional camera and I need to use lighting specifically in order to ensure shots are clear. I also need to edit every clip to make sure it is aligned perfectly to present a professional look.

5) Now you have completed the preliminary exercise, will you change anything about your actual coursework video plan? This could include your concept, cast/actors or technical elements such as mise-en-scene, camerawork or editing.

The concept may get changed as the narrative may be too generic and won't include the actual artist, on top of this I need to include more actors and improve my editing and camerawork in order to meet standards.
